  1. Doug Kershaw's solo career took a while to take form. He signed a songwriting contract with BMI in 1967 and then inked a deal with Warner Bros., releasing his solo debut The Cajun Way in 1969. Soon, Kershaw made inroads in both country and rock & roll: he appeared on Johnny Cash's televised variety show in 1969 and guested on records by Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, and Grand Funk Railroad.
