16 de abr. de 2018 · Angel of Shavano is an east-facing couloir, so it's best to get on it early. As a rule of thumb, try to be at the bottom around sunrise to get the best snow and avoid avalanche danger. We left the Shavano Trailhead with headlamps at 3:30 a.m., which seemed ridiculously early at the time.
It is a more direct route, and takes hikers over the Angel of Shavano, which is a snow feature that looks a bit like an angel on Shavano’s southeast slopes. This begins the same way along the Mount Shavano trail, but hikers diverge from the Mount Shavano trail around 10,600 feet, (about 3/4 of a mile after turning on the Mount Shavano Trail.
My first trip to Angel of Shavano CG (from Colo Spgs) was in 1989, and it became the mainstay for my kids & me. The kids are grown, but the CG is still one of my faves. Quiet, fairly secluded, has its own fishing pond and nearby beaver ponds, N. Fk. S. Arkansas flows past, and it is right on the Colorado Trail.

The Angel of Shavano Trailhead is located across the road from the Angel of Shavano Campground and serves as major trailhead along the Colorado Trail #1776. The first .25 miles from the trailhead climbs steeply out the North Fork valley and then levels off to an easy hike that winds in and out aspen and spruce/fir forests.
