Jupp wrote the majority of his own material, which paid homage to 1950s rock n roll and he is often cited as an influence on Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, Dr Feelgood and many others. Shampoo Haircut & Shave, originally issued in 1983, was Mickey Jupp's fifth solo album, appearing as the follow-up to the previous year's highly-regarded Some People Can't Dance.

19 de may. de 2018 · Mickey Jupp, a rock & roll traditionalist from the start -- he celebrated the clarion call of three chords back in Legend, long before pub rock even existed -- already dipped his toe into crossover waters back in 1982, when he teamed with Godley & Creme for Some People Can't Dance, so 1983's Shampoo Haircut and Shave represented a return to basics, of sorts.
Jupp moved over to A&M Records in 1982, releasing Some People Can't Dance. After releasing one more record on A&M, 1983's Shampoo Haircut and Shave, he was dropped from the label.
