Michael Palmer (1942-2013) wrote internationally bestselling novels of medical suspense, including The First Patient, The Second Opinion, The Last Surgeon, A Heartbeat Away, Oath of Office and Political Suicide.His book Extreme Measures was adapted into a movie starring Hugh Grant and Gene Hackman. His books have been translated into thirty-five languages.
Dr. Palmer graduated Magna Cum Laude from Wofford College in 2000. He received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his orthpaedic residency with the Greenville Hospital System in 2009 and a fellowship in Providence, RI in 2010. Dr. Palmer is board certified by the American Board of Othopaedic Surgery.
Michael Stephen Palmer was born in October 9th, 1942 in Springfield, Massachusetts. His parents were Milton Palmer and May Palmer. He had two sisters, Donna and Susan, whom he grew up together. In 1964, Palmer graduated from Wesleyan University. He had majored in pre-MED and a Russian minor.

Some of his novels have made The New York Times Best Seller list and have been translated into 35 languages. One, Extreme Measures (1991), was adopted into a 1996 film of the same name starring Hugh Grant, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Gene Hackman.
