Felix Mendelssohn (Hamburgo, 3 de febrero de 1809-Leipzig, 4 de noviembre de 1847), cuyo nombre completo era Jakob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, fue un compositor, director de orquesta y pianista alemán de música romántica, y hermano de la también pianista y compositora Fanny Mendelssohn.
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy ranks among the most pre-eminent, universally gifted and versatile musicians of the 19th century. His musical work as a composer, conductor and pianist took him all over Europe. For twelve years, Leipzig was the place where he lived and worked.
When Felix Mendelssohn founded the Conservatorium of Music in Leipzig in 1843 – the first of its kind in Germany – he must have realised it had to be part of a flourishing musical environment in order to survive.
Mendelssohn House is a museum in Leipzig in Saxony, Germany. The composer Felix Mendelssohn lived here from 1845 until his death in 1847; it now contains a collection about the life and work of the composer.
