Görlitz is Germany 's easternmost town. It sits across the Neiße River from its Polish sister city of Zgorzelec. Prior to the end of WWII Zgorzelec was part of Germany but the border was shifted westward in favor of Poland. It is very well preserved, and survived the Second World War more or less intact.
