In the space of a generation, mining has all but disappeared, but telltale headstocks still stand in places like Clipstone and Pleasley where there’s an absorbing museum.
Mansfield is the largest town in Nottinghamshire, lying on the river Maun from which it gets it's name. The focal point of the town centre is the market square which is surrounded by a commercial shopping centre. Local attractions include Mansfield Museum and Mansfield Palace Theatre.
