Cahuenga Boulevard ( / kəˈwɛŋɡə / ⓘ) is a major boulevard of northern Los Angeles, California, US. The “Cahuenga” name is a Spanish, phonetic derivative with no actual Spanish language meaning that is attributed to the Tongva village of Kawengna, meaning "place of the mountain".
The Cahuenga Pass connects the Los Angeles Basin to the San Fernando Valley via U.S. Route 101 ( Hollywood Freeway) and Cahuenga Boulevard. It is the lowest pass through the mountains.
Cahuenga Avenue (now Boulevard) is named for the Cahuenga (Tongva/Gabrielino) band of Native Americans who once inhabited the area that is today Hollywood. The northern portion of the street begins in the Cahuenga Pass. From there it winds south and east to Rosewood Avenue in Hancock Park.
