Sir Ernest Shackleton was an Anglo-Irish Antarctic explorer, who made three expeditions to the continent, most famously in 1914 on the Endurance. Who was Ernest Shackleton? He was born in southern Ireland, but grew up in London. He joined the merchant navy when he was 16 and worked on many different ships.
