While Odette transforms into a swan, Nina changes into the very character she was playing on stage, ironically dying in the guise of the White Swan.

Rothbart enters in disguise with his daughter Odile (the Black Swan). Odile is transformed to look like Odette. Siegfried is tricked and pledges to marry Odile and then realizes what Rothbart has done. Siegfried hurries to the Swan Lake and apologizes to the Odette, but the curse cannot be undone now.
