For a less crowded experience, consider relaxing at the Buzzard’s Roost spur rather than hiking all the way up to the summit.
The short hike to the top of Sharp Top Mountain is steep and intense, but the amazing 360 degree mountain views make all the effort more than worth it. The Peaks of Otter lie directly on the Blue Ridge Parkway north of Roanoke, VA.
Experience this 2.9-mile out-and-back trail near Thaxton, Virginia. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 2 h 10 min to complete. This is a very popular area for birding, camping, and hiking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are March through November.

Once thought to be the highest peak in Virginia, this 2.5 hour hike is one that will leave you speechless at the top. Park at the Peaks of Otter Nature Center (which is now closed). The trailhead is located to the right of the building.
