12 de ago. de 2023 · Mitad del Mundo is an attraction 26km away from the Capital of Ecuador, Quito. This attraction was built to signify where the equatorial line runs through. The 30-meter-tall monument that you see in many photos started construction in 1979 and finished in 1982.

Planetarium and Lamas. Another highlight is the planetarium. This was opened in 2003 and shows a 22 minute projection of the biggest stars, galaxies and planets. Animal lovers can admire the beautiful animals in the llama enclosure. Museum Inti Ñan. About 500m away you can visit the museum Inti Ñan and do experiments on the real equator.
Mitad del Mundo’s impressive 100ft tall Equator monument is visible from the road. Enter the site and you’ll notice a globe on the top, and painted lines to mark each hemisphere on the ground. If you ever wanted to take a cheesy equator line photo , you’ve come to the right place.
This is approximately 16 mi. (26 km.) north of downtown Quito. It is well known because is located in the equator line or 0-degree latitude. The equator line divides the planet into the southern and northern hemisphere. The Mitad del Mundo has parks, restaurants, shops, a planetarium, and the Solar Intiñan museum.
You can take a photo with the Mitad del Mundo sign, walk down the main avenue leading up to the monument, and visit the planetarium or llama farm. Sometimes, in the main plaza, they have bands playing traditional music which creates a really jolly atmosphere.
