What do pandas eat ? The simple answers is: bamboo. A panda's daily diet consists almost entirely of the leaves, stems and shoots of various bamboo species. Bamboo contains very little nutritional value so pandas must eat 12-38kg every day to meet their energy needs.

Giant pandas have unique feeding habits that revolve around their primarily bamboo-based diet. Spending around 14 hours per day feeding, pandas assume a sitting position and use their teeth to strip the tough outer layers of bamboo before consuming the inner tissue.

A thumb is visible on the bear's forepaw, which helps in holding bamboo in place for feeding. Giant pandas have adapted larger molars and expanded temporal fossa to meet their dietary requirements. The giant panda is exclusively found in six mountainous regions in a few provinces.
