- About NHANES
NHANES is a national survey that assesses the health and nutritional status of adults and children in the U.S. It combines personal interviews, physical examinations, and laboratory tests to measure various health-related topics, such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and oral health.

The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) is a survey research program conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) to assess the health and nutritional status of adults and children in the United States, and to track changes over time.
This report explains the creation of the 2017–March 2020 prepandemic data files, provides recommendations for and limitations of the files’ use, and presents prevalence estimates for selected health outcomes based on the files.
