Metal Church is an American heavy metal band formed in 1980. Originally based in San Francisco, California, they relocated to Aberdeen, Washington the following year and briefly called themselves Shrapnel.

Metal Church. The band was originally formed in San Francisco in 1980, by Kurdt Vanderhoof and others. They had considered using the name Anvil Chorus - the Church of Metal but opted for Metal Church, and early member Aaron Zimpel ended up using the Anvil Chorus name for his new band.
Born out of the West Coast Metal scene in the 80's, Metal Church quickly became one of the standout talents of their genre.
