Jonathan Richard Guy Greenwood (born 5 November 1971) is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and arranger, best known for his work with Radiohead. He is also the younger brother of bandmate Colin Greenwood.
As far as his gear goes, Jonny’s known for using Fender Telecaster Plus guitars almost exclusively. These guitars are equipped with Lace Sensor Blue and Red pickups, and the coil-split switch is modified to work as a signal kill-switch, leaving the two single-coil Reds to work as a humbucker.
Jonny original Whammy pedal, used for The Bends, was probably stolen along with the rest of the band’s gear in Denver on October 3, 1995. If so, he very quickly acquired another, which he used near-constantly until replacing it with a Whammy WH4 in 2011.
Making Sense of It All. For most of his time with Radiohead, Jonny has kept his pedals on two side-by-side flightcase boards. While one might expect the pedals to be connected from right to left, since pedals have inputs on the right side and outputs on the left, Jonny generally connects his pedals from left to right.
Greenwood is known to use a laptop computer running Max/MSP to process his guitar sound in Radiohead.
