John Roger Davis Jr. (born July 25, 1927) is a retired American diplomat. From 1988 to 1990, he served as the United States Ambassador to Poland, where he helped guide Solidarity, and Poland, in its quest for free elections. Later, from 1992 to 1994, he served as the United States Ambassador to Romania .

Growing up as an eighth-generation Floridian on a citrus farm, John Davis Jr. understood from an early age the unique rhythms and energies that come from agriculture.
John Davis Jr. is the author of The Places That Hold (Eastover Press, 2021), Hard Inheritance (Five Oaks Press, 2016) , Middle Class American Proverb (Negative Capability Press, 2014) and two other books of poetry. He has received many literary awards including the Florida Book Awards Bronze Medal and the 2021 Sidney Lanier Poetry Prize.

[1] . Later, from 1992 to 1994, he was the United States Ambassador to Romania during the Bush and Bill Clinton administrations.
John Henry Davis Jr., died July 13, 1984, at age 63. He was buried with full military honors, the American flag draping his casket. This profile was first published in 2010 as a chapter in Bill Pearl’s three volume, 1100 page magnum opus—Legends of the Iron Game.
