This article introduces a collection of papers that explore the social and normative aspects of illegal hunting across different contexts and cultures. It argues that illegal hunting is a complex phenomenon that involves a dialectic between hunters' informal norms and state policy, as well as the public's moral expectations and wildlife conservation.
Illegal hunting is a threat to wildlife conservation. The motivations for poaching and its possible effects are variable and have not been extensively studied. Applying an economic theoretical-conceptual frame, we analyze the different factors that may determine illegal hunting and discuss some policy implications.
