Damien Steven Hirst (/ h ɜːr s t /; né Brennan; born 7 June 1965) is an English artist and art collector. He is one of the Young British Artists (YBAs) who dominated the art scene in the UK during the 1990s.

Naturally, flies covered the decaying head, which was Hirst’s intention: he wanted to show constant movement, continuously changing patterns, and a clear depiction of life and death, even as the flies fell to the floor.
