Vassar College (/ ˈ v æ s ər / VASS-ər) is a private liberal arts college in Poughkeepsie, New York, United States. Founded in 1861 by Matthew Vassar, it was the second degree-granting institution of higher education for women in the United States. The college became coeducational in 1969.
Students choose among 30 departments, 3 interdepartmental programs, 14 multidisciplinary programs, the interdisciplinary Independent Program , 50 majors, 2 Accelerated and Dual Degree programs, and over 1,000 courses.
