John Hughes Bennett PRCPE FRSE (31 August 1812 – 25 September 1875) was an English physician, physiologist and pathologist. His main contribution to medicine has been the first description of leukemia as a blood disorder (1845). The first person to describe leukemia as an unknown disease was Alfred François Donné .

1 de ene. de 2017 · Bennett was the first doctor to describe leukemia (leucocythaemia) in 1845. He also made the first description of Aspergillus growing in the lung tissue of humans and aspergillosis. He advocated the use of cod-liver oil and restorative treatments for tuberculosis.

He received a golden medal for “the physiology and pathology of the brain” that same year. Bennett taught histology in 1841, where he emphasized the importance of microscopy to investigate diseases.
