David Hare (born June 5, 1947, St. Leonards, Sussex, England) is a British playwright, screenwriter, and director noted for his deftly crafted satires examining British society in the post- World War II era. Hare graduated from Jesus College, Cambridge, in 1968 and founded an experimental touring theatre group that same year.

David Hare is an English playwright, screenwriter, and director. Born and raised in Sussex, he attended Jesus College at Cambridge where he became a member of the Cambridge University Amateur Dramatic Club. After his graduation, he worked with the Portable Theatre Company and wrote his first play Slag in 1970.
