While they cannot be together in their own countries, they have a happy ending in Switzerland. It’s a call back to their first “meeting” that happened in Switzerland.

The ending leaves room for interpretation, suggesting that true love can conquer all obstacles, while also addressing the issues of North-South Korean division.
The ending felt like the most realistically possible situation and is already better than I expected at the start of the show but damn I wished they got a better deal. I kinda even hoped RJH would fake his death or something while in Switzerland.
