Charles Lamb (10 February 1775 – 27 December 1834) was an English essayist, poet, and antiquarian, best known for his Essays of Elia and for the children's book Tales from Shakespeare, co-authored with his sister, Mary Lamb (1764–1847).
Charles Lamb was an English essayist and critic, best known for his Essays of Elia (1823–33). Lamb went to school at Christ’s Hospital, where he studied until 1789. He was a near contemporary there of Samuel Taylor Coleridge and of Leigh Hunt.

Charles Lamb was born in the heart of London and was the youngest child of John Lamb, a lawyer’s clerk, and Elizabeth Field. His father worked for the well-known London lawyer Samuel Salt. Born – Crown Office Row, Inner Temple, London, on the 10th of February, 1775. Lamb was one of 7 siblings.
