History. Krypton's apocalyptic end in Action Comics #1 (June 1938), art by Joe Shuster. In its first appearance, Krypton was only depicted at the moment of its destruction. Beginning in the Superman comic strip, Krypton was shown to have been a planet similar to Earth, only older by eons and possessed of all the progress that implied.

The stories also use "Kryptonian" as an adjective to refer to anything created by or associated with the planet itself or the cultures that existed on it.
Kryptonians, also known as Lorviians to the Ko'erst, [2] are a near-extinct technologically advanced species, native to the planet Krypton. The species was rendered critically endangered after almost all Kryptonians died when their main civilization center on Krypton exploded due to the instability of the planet's radioactive core.
