The eggs of kingfishers are invariably white. The typical clutch size varies by species; some of the very large and very small species lay as few as two eggs per clutch, whereas others may lay 10 eggs, the typical is around three to six eggs.
The common kingfisher typically lays two to ten glossy white eggs, which average 1.9 cm (3 ⁄ 4 in) in breadth, 2.2 cm (7 ⁄ 8 in) in length, and weigh about 4.3 g (5 ⁄ 32 oz), of which 5% is shell. Both sexes incubate by day, but only the female incubates at night.
