John Fitzgerald is a member of a group of trappers and hunters hunting for pelts in the unsettled wilderness in 1823. Their group is attacked by Arikara Indians, with many casualties. During the retreat, he saves the life of the young Jim Bridger who is almost drowned by an Arikara.

While he is scouting game, Glass is mauled and left near death by a female grizzly bear which is guarding its cubs. The racist trapper John Fitzgerald, fearing another Arikara attack, argues that the group must mercy-kill Glass and keep moving. Henry agrees, but he is unable to pull the trigger.

19 de sept. de 2023 · Glass was half dead. So, it was impossible to take him with them. At last, Captain decided that they could not take him with them. So, he left his son Hawk, Hawk’s friend Bridger, and John there. John was the enemy of Glass and got ready to look after him for $100. The remaining people continued their journey.
7 de mar. de 2024 · The Revenant's ending could be read as Glass finally allowing himself to peacefully die, joining his wife and son in the afterlife. The Revenant takes place in 1823, and Glass didn't die until a decade later in 1833.
