The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a national memorial centered on a colossal sculpture carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore (Lakota: Tȟuŋkášila Šákpe, or Six Grandfathers) in the Black Hills near Keystone, South Dakota, United States.

Mount Rushmore’s summer temperatures can reach as high as 100 degrees F, and winter high temps can sometimes only reach 20 F. Geographically, the granite that the famous sculpture is composed of is part of a rock formation that is among the oldest in the western United States.
