Leonora Carrington (Lancashire, Inglaterra, 6 de abril de 1917-Ciudad de México, 25 de mayo de 2011 ) fue una pintora surrealista y escritora inglesa nacionalizada mexicana. Nació el 6 de abril de 1917 en el pueblo de Chorley, en Lancashire, Inglaterra.
Mary Leonora Carrington (6 April 1917 – 25 May 2011) was a British-born, naturalized Mexican surrealist painter and novelist. She lived most of her adult life in Mexico City and was one of the last surviving participants in the surrealist movement of the 1930s.
25 de may. de 2011 · Carrington shared the Surrealists' keen interest in the unconscious mind and dream imagery. To these ideas she added her own unique blend of cultural influences, including Celtic literature, Renaissance painting, Central American folk art, medieval alchemy, and Jungian psychology.
Leonora Carrington (Lancashire, England, 1917 – Mexico City, 2011) was one of the most prominent members of the surrealist movement. She produced paintings, sculptures, etchings, textiles and jewellery. She also wrote novels, plays and short stories.
Leonora Carrington was a British-Mexican painter known for her Surrealist works. Full of enigmatic symbolism, Carrington’s Self-Portrait (c. 1937–1938) depicts the artist in a domestic interior, extending an open hand to a female hyena.
Leonora Carrington is considered a key figure in Surrealism and one of the most important artists in Mexico. Like other surrealists, Carrington sought a fuller understanding of reality through Celtic mythology, hermeticism, alchemy, Kabbalah, Tibetan Buddhism, and fantasy literature.
