With increased altitude the temperature drops rapidly; despite the proximity of the sea, the coastal massifs are cold regions. At 6,575 feet the summits of Mount Babor in the Little Kabylie region are covered with snow for four or five months, while the Moroccan High Atlas retains its snows until the height of summer.

If you want to ski in the Atlas Mountains the season can be brief; the best time for pretty much guaranteed snow is mid-January to mid-February. Winter walking is a better option with a longer season. Climbing holidays to summit Toubkal usually happen between April and September.
