The Marilyn Monroe (Marilyn) full suite are screenprints that make up one of Andy Warhol’s most recognized portfolios. Known for his fascination for the glitz and glamour that fame offers, Warhol used film star Marilyn Monroe as one of his earliest muses.
Andy Warhol published the Marilyn Monroe complete portfolio in 1967. It comprises ten silkscreen prints depicting cinema’s “it girl”. Marking an early indication of his later-trademark style, the majority of the pieces strongly reflect the loud colors and vibrant energy of the times.
The Marilyn Monroe portfolio is a portfolio or series of ten 36×36 inch silkscreened prints on paper by the pop artist Andy Warhol, first made in 1967, all showing the same image of the 1950s film star Marilyn Monroe but all in different, mostly very bright, colors.
Marilyn was the first such portfolio, consisting of ten images made from the same 1953 publicity photograph of Marilyn Monroe in the film Niagara, which Warhol transformed with intentionally off-register printing and garish combinations of psychedelic colors.
