Kaifeng (Chinese: 开封; pinyin: Kāifēng) is a prefecture-level city in east-central Henan province, China. It is one of the Eight Ancient Capitals of China, having been the capital eight times in history, and is most known for having been the Chinese capital during the Northern Song dynasty.
As one of China’s seven ancient capitals, Kaifeng was among the first historical and cultural cities to be so designated by the national government. The city has remained at the heart of Henan’s cultural life even though it is no longer the provincial capital.

In the Northern Song Dynasty (960 - 1127), Kaifeng even was the world's first metropolis.
