Out of all characters, Jake is the first character who's death isn't caused by William or an Animatronic. He's also the first character shown leaving his Animatronic physically. This makes him the first character who can be set free without Fire, but instead, a memory.
It is heavily implied that Jake possesses Simon after he died. He presumably escaped from the cabinet and happened to end up in Phineas Taggart 's lab to be the Stitchwraith 's mask. His spirit would then inhabit the Stitchwraith.

Jake, horrified, wonders why that happened, before Andrew explains, claiming his rage had caused it. The shock was intended to scare people, which causes Jake to get mad at Andrew, explaining how it was killing people. As Jake decides to collect Andrew's infected objects, he attempts to get Andrew's help, who refuses.
Just finished the book. Well its Jakes origin story. Jake is one of the two spirits in the stitch wrath story. The good spirit. that's being told piece by piece at the end of each book. Not gonna spoil to much on that story though
