1849. The school is named "Gakushuin" upon being granted the plaque bearing the school name "Gakushuin" written by Emperor Komei. 1870. Kyoto Gakushuin is abolished. 1877. The Peers' School opens in Kanda Nishiki-cho, Tokyo. The new school inherits the plaque and the name of Gakushuin. 1884.
