King's College London (informally King's or KCL) is a public research university located in London, England. King's was established by royal charter in 1829 under the patronage of King George IV and the Duke of Wellington. In 1836, King's became one of the two founding colleges of the University of London.
The shield depicts the royal coat of arms together with an inescutcheon of the House of Hanover, while the supporters embody the college motto of sancte et sapienter ("With Holiness and Wisdom"). The original arms is displayed on the Royal Charter of King's College London.

Over the years, there have been many versions of this mascot, evolving to the newest version on the Great Hall of King’s staircase. However, the original is thought to be the statue of Reggie at Bush House.
