Strange, I thought Petrucci with goatee and short hair around the time of the recorded Japanese G3 with Satch and Vai was the best he's looked, but it's subjective of course. I'm not huge into this 'metal look' with beards and muscles and shit.
His look around 2011/2012 was quite similar to his look around the Awake era, at least in terms of facial hair and hair style. And personally I dig his current look, even if it looks like he should be wearing a flannel shirt and wrestling bears in the open country.

Portnoy looks better with his long hair and small beard, Sherinian has looked good with any short hair and mostly clean cut look, Moore looked better when he had hair and Dominici looked better in 06 as compared to in 89.
