The police suspect Steve of kidnapping Donna and Tad, and also send Sheriff George Bannerman out to the Cambers' house, but Cujo kills him. Donna, after witnessing the attack and realizing Tad is in danger of dying of dehydration, battles the weakened Cujo and kills him with a baseball bat.
He was a male St. Bernard dog owned by the Camber Family. Cujo was once a friendly and playful companion, but when he contracted rabies from a bat bite, he went insane and was turned into a vicious killer who attacked anybody who came near him due to the severe infection on his brain.
Cujo was once the beloved St. Bernard of the Camber family who only wanted to be a good dog, but was bitten by a rabid bat in the nose when his head got stuck in a bat cave while chasing a rabbit (which was shown at the beginning of the movie).
The Trenton family—advertising executive Vic, housewife Donna, and young son Tad—take their car to the rural home of abusive mechanic Joe Camber for repairs, where they meet Cujo, the Camber family's pet, and get along well with him.
