Atsushi is an uncertain, polite person who goes out of his way to help people and is riddled with self-doubt. He's had quite a lot of character development recently, having to lead his team through a crisis, but more importantly, he has been getting closer and closer to being able to strike a perfect balance between his idealism and pragmatism (like for example, when he he says, "Ideals alone can't save a human life.
Analysis. Discussion. Atsushi is very different from a typical protagonist, who try's to save everybody they can, and never wants to kill anyone. Because he didn't develop this mindset from an inspiring, kind mentor; or from some innate sense of justice, or even from just his own hardships.
Atsushi carries hatred and deep fear toward the director of his orphanage, who acted as his caretaker. His negative feelings are due to the Director torturing and abusing him verbally, physically, and emotionally throughout his entire life, up until he was thrown out of the orphanage.
