Strike Fighter Squadron 101 (VFA-101), also known as the "Grim Reapers", was a United States Navy Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) based at Eglin AFB, Florida. After the West Coast FRS for the F-14 Tomcat, VF-124, was disestablished in the mid-1990s, VF-101 became the sole F-14 FRS
In the foreground is a U.S. Navy F-4J of fighter squadron VF-101 Grim Reapers. VF-101 was not a regular squadron of Carrier Air Wing Seven (CVW-7) aboard Independence, but a fleet replacement squadron which trained F-4 pilots.
The original Grim Reapers were commisioned as Fighter Squadron TEN on 3 June 1942 at NAS San Diego flying the F4F Wildcat. They deployed aboad the USS Enterprise (CV-6) to the Southern Pacific where they participated in numerous engagements including the Battle of Guadalcanal.

23 de may. de 2019 · On 1 May 2012, VF-101 'Grim Reapers' was reactivated and redesignated as Strike Fighter Squadron 101 (VFA-101),with a homeport change from Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia to Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.
23 de may. de 2019 · The “Grim Reapers” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 101 stood up in the spring of 2012 as the very first F-35C squadron. They were based at Eglin AFB alongside the Air Force’s F-35A community, which was farther along in development and already had some experience with the fifth-gen F-22 fighters.
