The Viking park is a part of Badeparken, between Scandic Park Hotel and the ferry terminal in Sandefjord. Right next to the famous Whaling Monument in Sandefjord, there is a landing place for large oak logs to be split and chopped into ship planks. Ship parts will be produced here.
The Vikings lived in Sandefjord and surrounding areas about 1,000 years ago, and numerous Viking artifacts and monuments can be found in Sandefjord. One of the most important remains from the Viking Age was found at the grave site Gokstadhaugen (Gokstad Mound) in Sandefjord.
I Sandefjord Vikingpark kan du følge med, og til og med delta i byggingen av en arkeologisk replika av Gokstadskipet. Rett utenfor sentrum finner du Gokstadhaugen hvor det berømte Gokstadskipet ble funnet i 1879. Av de fire vikingskipene som er funnet i Norge, er tre funnet i Vestfold.
