21 de feb. de 2020 · Over the years, video game development has included the use of cinematography techniques to create film-like qualities. The line between video games and filmmaking has also become blurred as some movies and shows have started using video game technology.
Game cinematics have been with us from the beginning. And from Jumpman to Commander Shepard, they have served as vehicles for delicious story delivery. So, today we are paying homage to all the people who have contributed to this unique art form over these last forty years.
This article focuses more specifically on the history of the "camera" in the context of video games. Rather than opting for a formal, technical, or anthropological approach (N. Taylor, 2016), we will focus on the transfer of the notion of "camera" within video game discourses.
Audiences will come away with a deeper understanding of video game trailer and cinematic animation; how the work in the area has crystallized into a distinct sub-genre; and why the future looks to propel this style of work beyond the boundaries of the video game and into new territory.
