He has been President of the Society for Popular Astronomy and has appeared on the BBC ‘Sky at Night’ programme several times. He is currently Director of the Jeremiah Horrocks Observatory at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN). He can be found on the UCLAN stand throughout Astrofest.
Derek teaches across a rage of subjects in Physics and Astrophysics. His particular expertise lies in the fields of star and planet formation, as well as interstellar magnetic fields, from the most diffuse regions of space to the dense environments around the event horizons of black holes.
