As a Deck Officer Cadet, you will start at the bottom and work your way up: Captain – overall charge of the vessel and safety of crew, passengers and cargo. Responsible for legal and commercial matters. Chief Officer – day to day management of all deck crew.
We offer training programmes for Deck Cadets, Engine Cadets and Electrical Cadets. Deck Cadets learn to perform the day-to-day operations of a Deck Officer, including navigation, safety checks, vessel maintenance and deck work.

To apply for a foundation degree in marine operations, you must undertake a three-year deck officer cadet training programme (officer cadetship) approved by the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB), and meet the academic entry requirements as stated.
The Deck Cadet training route is the initial stage in an established career progression towards certification as a ship’s Captain (otherwise known as a Master), with excellent prospects and salaries for those with the right qualifications, abilities and experience.
