From the age of 11, Sandburg worked in various occupations—as a barbershop porter, a milk truck driver, a brickyard hand, and a harvester in the Kansas wheat fields. Carl Sandburg. Poeta estadounidense. Nació el 6 de enero de 1878 en Galesburg, Illinois. Se crió en el seno de una familia de emigrantes suecos. A los trece años empieza a trabajar como jornalero. Tomó parte en la guerra contra España (1898), volvió a Galesburg e ingresó en la Universidad de Lombard (hoy Knox).
