Fue uno de los pintores austriacos más representativos de su época y de los pioneros más importantes en el arte moderno de su país. Nació en el seno de una familia campesina, pasando la mayor parte de su juventud en Maishofen.
Faistauer zählt zu den bedeutendsten Malern der österreichischen Moderne. Durch Ausstellungen in Deutschland (Anton Faistauer war auch Mitglied im Deutschen Künstlerbund [3]) und Budapest wurde der junge Künstler vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg bekannt.
