Ben Roy Mottelson (9 July 1926 – 13 May 2022) was an American-Danish nuclear physicist. He won the 1975 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the non-spherical geometry of atomic nuclei.

Ben Roy Mottelson was an American-Danish physicist who shared the 1975 Nobel Prize for Physics with Aage N. Bohr and James Rainwater for his work in determining the asymmetrical shapes of certain atomic nuclei and the reasons behind such asymmetries.
The American Danish theoretical physicist Ben Roy Mottelson, one of the pioneers of nuclear structure theory, left us on 13 May 2022. We lost one of the greatest minds and one of the finest people.
