Ibn Isḥāq was an Arab biographer of the Prophet Muḥammad whose book, in a recension by Ibn Hishām, is one of the most important sources on the Prophet’s life. Ibn Isḥāq was the grandson of an Arab prisoner captured by Muslim troops in Iraq and brought to Medina, where he was freed after accepting.

Vida. Era nieto de un hombre cristiano de Kufa, llamado Yasar. Había sido capturado en un monasterio en Ayn al-Tamr en una de las campañas de Jálid ibn al-Walid, llevado a Medina y convertido en esclavo. Yasar se convirtió al islam y así fue manumitido y se convirtió en mawla (cliente) de su antiguo amo.
