John Bale (21 November 1495 – November 1563) was an English churchman, historian and controversialist, and Bishop of Ossory in Ireland.
John Bale was a bishop, Protestant controversialist, and dramatist whose Kynge Johan is asserted to have been the first English history play. He is notable for his part in the religious strife of the 16th century and for his antiquarian studies, including the first rudimentary history of English.

15 de dic. de 2022 · JOHN BALE (1495-1563), Bishop of Ossory, was born at the little village of Cove, near Dunwich in Suffolk, on 21 Nov. 1495. His parents were in a humble rank of life; but at the age of twelve he was sent to the Carmelite convent at Norwich, where he was educated, and thence he passed to Jesus College, Cambridge.
