Arthur Percival Foley Rhys-Davids, DSO, MC & Bar (26 September 1897 – 27 October 1917) was a British flying ace of the First World War. Rhys-Davids was born in 1897 to a distinguished family. His father was a professional academic and his mother a prolific author, which afforded the young Rhys-Davids thorough schooling.
The British Army declared Arthur Rhys Davids as having been killed in action on the date that he disappeared on 18th March 1918. On the same day he was gazetted again, this time for the Voss victory, obtaining the Distinguished Service Order:
The following month, on 27 October 1917, Rhys Davids was missing in action. He was last seen pursuing an Albatros east of Roulers. It is believed that his S.E.5a was shot down by Karl Gallwitz. Listed as Arthur Percival Foley Rhys-Davids in the London Gazette.
Arthur Rhys-Davids, the only son and the third child of Thomas William Rhys Davids, was born in Forest Hill on 26th September 1897. When he was born, his father was Professor of Pali at the University of London.
Arthur Rhys Davids was born in Forest Hill, 26 September 1897. He was educated at Sale, Brooklands and Ashton upon Mersey High School for Boys, 1906-7; Wadham House, Hale, 1909; Summer Fields, Oxford, 1909-10; and Eton, 1911-16; and won an exhibition to Balliol College, Oxford.
