Murlidhar Devidas Amte (pronunciation ⓘ), popularly known as Baba Amte, (26 December 1914 – 9 February 2008) was an Indian social worker and social activist known particularly for his work for the rehabilitation and empowerment of people suffering from leprosy.

Baba Amte - The Journey. Murlidhar Devidas Amte popularly known as Baba Amte was born to an affluent Hindu Brahmin family on the 26th of December 1914 in Hinganghat, Wardha. As a young boy, he enjoyed all the privileges that came with his family’s wealth.
Baba Amte left his comfortable life as a wealthy Hindu lawyer to follow a personal calling, developing modern communities to help those with Hansen’s Disease (leprosy) and other so-called untouchables of his native India.
